Notes for John George Leininger
From the Carriere Family Tree, he was previously married to Elizabeth Chapman Broom on 12 Jan 1848 in Jay County, Indiana, and they had several children together before she died in 1863. In censuses, he is usually listed as George, and his gravestone (shown on Find A Grave, listing for John George Leininger) shows his name as J. George Leininger. In the 1870 census, his birth place is given as France, but in later censuses it is given as Germany. The Douglas Family Tree (https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/88869856/person/46583261476/facts) says that he was born in the Alsace region, and it probably changed hands from France to Germany.
