Laura Susan Shiflett
October 29, 1957 - February 4, 2025
Fort Worth, Texas - Our beloved sister, Laura Susan Shiflett, 67, moved to her heavenly home February 4, 2025.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Fort Worth, Texas, with Father Dan Pattee officiating. A reception will immediately follow.
Laura was born October 29, 1957, to George and Patricia Green Shiflett, in Newport News, Virginia, while George was stationed at Langley AFB, VA. She graduated from Western Hills High School in 1976, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in History and English from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1980.
Her love for children and strong faith led her to teach at St. Rita's Catholic School before embarking on a distinguished 40-year career at Lockheed Martin, retiring in 2022.
Laura was a devout Catholic. She loved to share her faith and values with others, especially family members, who turned to her for religious wisdom and guidance. Her life of service to others and unwavering dedication to family made her an exceptional daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She enriched our lives with thoughtful advice that proved pivotal on many occasions. Her steadfast devotion to our parents was exemplified by the compassionate daily home care she lovingly provided to our mom for several years.
Laura loved decorating for the holidays, hosting Christmas parties with Bible quizzes, making crafts, baking our traditional family waffle cookies, and of course spending time with her dog, Sophie. Her love for her nieces and nephews was infinite. Laura delighted in enriching their lives through vacations and classes, ensuring they explored all their interests. Above all, she treasured sharing Mass with them.
Laura was a proud member of the Ft. Worth Chapter DAR and loved supporting our Chapter. She was always the first to volunteer, whether for DAR, work parties, and even as room mother for a great-niece.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, George and Patricia Shiflett; her sister, Julia Fezio Crosswell; and her brother, James Stephan Shiflett.
She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her surviving siblings, Dennis Shiflett, Mary Alda (John), Jean Kenas (William), and Mark Shiflett (Patricia); and nieces and nephews, Sarah Fezio, Jennifer Boyle (Solomon), Joseph Fezio (Rhiannon), Margaret Woodlee (Kevin), Robert Lyons (Samantha), Amanda Lyons, Matthew Shiflett, and Michael Shiflett; along with six great-nieces and nephews.
