J.W. Johnson, 84, died Wednesday afternoon in a hospital at Danville, Virginia. He had been in declining health for several years, but it was only recently that his condition became critical.

A native of Unityville, Pennsylvania and his parents were the late William D. Johnson and Sarah Jane Robins Johnson of Unityville, Pennsylvania.

He came to the South as a young man and for many years was engaged in the lumber business before becoming associated with the City of Waycross. He was a veteran resident of Ware County, Georgia and a former Engineer for the City of Waycross Water Works and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson lived in Waycross for many years and several years prior to Mrs. Johnson's death, they donated the site to the Daughters of the American Revolution for the present 'D.A.R.' Park; because for the love of the community where they spent the major portion of their lives. Since the death of his wife, he has spent a large portion of his time with his children in Virginia .

Survivors include a son: William Stackhouse Johnson and two daughters:

Julien Nee Bush (all of Danville, Virginia)

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with the Rev. R.T. Russell conducting his service at W.L. Hinson and Company Chapel following burial into Oakland Cemetery next to his wife.

Pallbearers will be Harman Turner, Stafford Moody, Will C. Parker, Dr. Ralph Newton, H.J. Kitchens and Charles O. Parker.
