From the Sheldon IA Mail-Sun, August 20, 1997: Benjamin H. Reeves, 88, formerly of Sheldon, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Carroll Health Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Gordon Bloemendaal officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
From the Daily Times Hearold, August 20, 1997: Ben H. Reeves A funeral service for Ben H. Reeves of Carroll will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Mr. Reeves, 88, formerly of Sheldon, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Carroll Health Center. The Rev. Gordon Bloemendaal will officiate the service. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery at Sheldon. Friends will call after 2 p.m. and the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. He was born Nov. 15, 1908, at Harrisburg, Mo., a son of Charles and Nancy (Ewens) Reeves, grew up in Missouri and moved to Sheldon at age 18. He and Nellie Douma were married Dec. 8, 1937, at Sheldon. They farmed near Sheldon and Hartley until 1970, when he retired and moved into Sheldon. They moved to Carroll Health Center in March 1993. Mrs. Reeves died Oct. 12 of that year. Mr. Reeves was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Survivors include two sons: David Reeves and his wife, Sandy, of Devil's Lake, N.D. and Douglas Reeves and his wife, Ruth, of Glidden; four grandchildren: Robert and Matthew Reeves of North Dakota and Rhonda and Rebecca Reeves of Glidden; a great-grandson, Michael Reeves; five sisters-in-law: Julia DeHoogh of Sheldon, Cornelia Douma of Sanborn, Althea Reeves of Centralia, Mo., and Mary Reeves of Brashear, Mo.; and a brother-in-law, Cornie DeHoogh, of Sheldon. Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie; six brothers; and three sisters.
