Notes for Dorothy Mabel Preston
According to Angie Way (e-mail dated 24 Nov 2019), Dorothy's mother was Lilla Gertrude (Simmons) Perry, but her father is not known. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/109601693/person/170077586615/facts says her father was an "unknown concert pianist". Her last name is given as Preston in the 1920 census and Perry in the 1930 and 1940 censuses (all three in Los Angeles, CA). She was living with Everett and Lilla Perry in 1920 and 1930, and is listed as "adopted daughter" of Everett. On Ancestry.com "U.S. Social Security Applications and Claims Index 1936-2007", she is listed as Dorothy P Wilson and her parents are listed as Everett R Perry and Lilla G Simmons.

My Grandmother Dorothy was amazing! She went to the Juilliard Music School. She was a phenomenal pianist, there are stories of her time working in Hollywood. She was the rehearsal pianist for the Wizard of Oz. She and Frank married later in life, she was 35 or 36 when they were married.
"California Death Index 1940-1997" and "U.S. Social Security Applications and Claims Index 1936-2007" both give her birth date as 14 May 1914, but family sources give her birth date as 13 May 1913. Not sure what is right. Also, the Social Security database says she was born in Newark, NJ, but the family sources say Trenton.
