Notes for Harvey McLean Smith

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 13-14 Jul 2006 (obtained from Legacy.com):

Smith, Harvey McLean H. McLean Smith passed away in his sleep July 12, 2006 after a long battle with a myriad of debilitating diseases. He was 79 years old. Known to all as Mac, he had lived in the Brookfield area for the past 16 years; prior to that he had lived the majority of his life in Westchester County, New York. Mac was born and raised in Westchester. Upon graduating Scarsdale High in 1945 he postponed attending Yale University choosing instead to enter the US Navy where he trained as a pilot. During his time in the military, Mac attended RPI and Middlebury Colleges. Upon his discharge, he entered Yale University, graduating in 1949. Mac, whose father Abiel Leonard Smith was a reporter for the New York Times, began his working days with the Herald Tribune. From there he joined Time Incorporated in 1952 where he worked in many capacities until his retirement in 1986. His final assignment was as International Circulation Director for Life Magazine. Mac loved equally his children, the written word (particularly if it was Shakespeare), music and baseball. Those passions notwithstanding, the one true love and most important figure in his life was his wife Nata, to whom he was married for 56 years. Mac is lovingly survived by Nata, his daughter Margaret (Norbert) Kot, his sons: Nathaniel (Catherine) Smith and Hamilton (Mayumi) Smith; and his grandchildren: Erin, Molly, Nathan, Emily, Danielle and Mia. He is further survived by his sister Kathryn Burnet, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, July 14 from 9:30 AM until the time of Memorial Service at 10:30 AM. Complete Services will be held in Pleasantville, NY, followed by burial on the family lot in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, CT. Memorials to the Alzheimers Association or St. Jude's Children's Hospital appreciated.
