He departed Germany with his parents at the age of two from the Port of Bremen on the sailing Ship Fortuna, and arrived in the United States through the Port of Galveston on August 01, 1858, and settled in Colorado county. Texas. He married Rosalie Lange in Colorado County, Texas and they were the parents of thirteen children.
