Karl (Carl) Sommerlatte was the son of Christoph August Sommerlatte and Johanne Louise Jetschmann Sommerlatte.
He was born in Worlitz-Anhalt-Dessau, Prussia, now Germany.
He married Johanna Cathrina Strohmeyer, on Feb. 11, 1859, at Frelsburg, Colorado County, Texas.
Karl departed his home country from the Port of Bremen on Oct. 6, 1857, on the Brig Iris, and arrived in the United States, on Nov. 29, 1857. Karl meet his future wife Johanna Cathrina Strohmeyer upon this voyage to the United States.
Karl was the father of six known children.
