Notes for Victor Houtmann

From Find A Grave (listing for Victor Houdmann):

Victor ... is the son of Martin Houdmann and Rosina Spaeidel. He immigrated to the US as an infant with his mother. His father never came to the US. His wife was Elise Sommerlatte, daughter of Frederick Sommerlatte and Johanna Kulms. Victor and Elise had 13 children.

Also, in a comment left later on Find A Grave:

Victor changed the spelling of his surname it the reason is not known, the original spelling of the surname was Houtmann. He was born in the village of Blienschweiler, in the Alsace Region, of France. his father was Martin Houtmann, and Rosina "Rose" Speitel. His father's parents, was Jean Joseph Houtmann, and Marie Heissat.

My comment to this is that the Alsace region went back and forth between France and Germany. In fact, in 1872 Alsace was German, having just been acquired in the 1871 settlement of the Franco-Prussian War (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alsace). The names here sound more German than French.
