Notes for Joseph Hall Ranson

From a post by Carolyn Gathright on 23 Mar 2016:

Harwood, February 4 – Night before last, at 9 o’clock, Professor J.H. Ranson, president of Gonzales college, died at his residence, in Gonzales, of pneumonia. He had been sick only a week, and being robust, and having a splendid physique, the whole community is appalled at the announcement of his death. Professor Ranson had been among us for about five years, and had gained a reputation as a fine educator and a polished gentleman. He was buried to-day with Masonic honors. He leaves a wife and child, to whom the sympathies of our people go out in this hour of affliction. Professor Ranson was a member of the Texas Teachers association, and took high rank among that body. Galveston Daily News, 5 February 1885, page 1
