MARY ALICE (MARTENEY) BROMMER, was born to Joseph T. and Virgie Marteney on October 28, 1934 in Fairmont, West Virginia. She died at home January 26, 2013. She graduated from Fairmont High School, Fairmont College, and went to New York City to live and study at Grace Downs. After completion of this study, she became a stewardess for National Air Lines. She continued to live in and fly out of New York for two years until transferred to Miami, Florida. While being based in Miami she met John D. Brommer, Sr. a lieutenant in the Air Force, flying refueling aircraft from Homestead, Florida, just south of Miami. They met in March 1959, and were married in Willowick, Ohio October 10, 1959. They were married 53 years. Upon John's discharge in April 1960 they moved to Memphis, his hometown, and started their family. They had three sons, John Drury Brommer, Jr. "Dru", Mark Allen Brommer, and Steven Thomas Brommer. She became active in Women's Bible Fellowship, and was a leader for years. She was very active in the Friends Of The Needy Circle of The Kings Daughters & Sons for over 45 years. She also taught Sunday school for several years at First Evangelical Church, being also active in several women's circles. After the sons were grown she managed an antique store, and then worked in the trust department at Union Planters Bank (Regions). She leaves her husband, John Drury Brommer, Sr., her son John Drury Brommer, Jr. (Dru) and wife Kelly; Mark Allen Brommer; and Steven Thomas Brommer (Steve) and wife Leslie. She leaves five grandchildren: Sarah, Virginia, Alaina, Dru (III), and Olivia, all in the Memphis area. Donations to King's Daughters (Friends Of The Needy). Visitation to be Wednesday, January 30 at First Evangelical Church at 12 noon with the service to follow at 1 p.m. Burial to be in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday. Donations may be made to King's Daughters and Sons (Friend of The Needy Circle) Memphis Funeral Home And Memorial Gardens 5599 Poplar Ave.
