Notes for Bridget May

Most information I have on her is from censuses, and there are lots of conflicts about where she was from. In U.S. censuses, Theresa Lino (or whoever talked to the census person) stated that her mother was born in France in 1900, English Canada in 1910, and Irish Free State in 1930. In the 1850 U.S census for Cohoes, NY, and the 1861 Canadian census for Galt, Ontario, Bridget Berry is listed as born in Ireland. She is not listed in the 1871 Canadian census, and Robert is listed as a widower, so presumably she died between 1861 and 1871. Theresa may not have known much about her mother since she died when Theresa was a young child, so it could be that she did not know her mother was Irish in 1900 and 1910, and then she found out later from a sibling. Or, perhaps the misinformation in the 1900 and 1910 censuses was because someone besides Theresa (Dominick or one of the children) answered the census questions, and didn't know where her parents were from.

The information about children is also from censuses.

Her last name is from a marriage record for daughter Ellen on Ancestry.com in Ontario, Canada, Marriages, 1801-1928. There is a marriage for Ellen Berry with parents Robert Berry and Bridget May.
