Nellie Virginia Shue von Dorster, 89, of Mystic River Homes, 205 Elm Street in Noank, died April 24, 2001 at Beechwood Nursing Center after a short illness.

Mrs. von Dorster was born on April 6, 1912 in West Fairview, PA, the daughter of Rev. Allen Clayton Shue and Nellie Virginia Grimm. She graduated from Huntington High School, Huntington, PA, in 1927, at the age of 15, and from Susquehanna University in 1931. After teaching high school Latin and English in Hyndman, PA for three years, she earned a Masters in Library Science from Drexel University.

She married Herbert Rinard von Dorster, Jr. in Harrisburg, PA. on November 1, 1940, and they lived in Lancaster, PA. During the war, she became the first executive secretary of the Lancaster County Civilian Defense Council, and then joined her husband in Alexandria, Virginia when he was assigned to duty at the Pentagon. She worked at the Department of Agriculture with Rudolph Flesch. After her husband returned from duty overseas, they returned to Lancaster. The family moved several times, finally settling in Oberlin, Ohio in 1959. She worked as a cataloguer in the Oberlin College Library until 1968 when the family moved to Lancaster, PA. She worked as a cataloguer in the Millersville State University Library until her retirement in 1977.

She is predeceased by her husband, and by two sisters, Miriam Sproul and Margaret Norris. Surviving is one daughter, Mary von Dorster, married to John Wirzbicki of Noank, CT, one son, Eric von Dorster of Palo Alto, CA, and four grandchildren.
