Notes for Brents Dickinson III



Brents III was a Family Tree DNA Family Finder match for me, a nice confirmation of the Wilson-Sandidge and Sandidge-Brents connections. (Fourth cousin once removed; common ancestors Joshus Brents and Rebecca Allen Worley.)

Brents, Jr. and Gwendolyn (Holman) Dickinson

Husband of:
Billie (Howard) Dickinson. They were married fifty eight years.

As a young boy, he was a member of Boy Scout Troop 214, having reached Star rank and was a member of the order of the arrow.

He was a graduate of Glasgow High School and Western Kentucky University where he earned a BA in English in 1956. Continuing his education, he earned various degrees including a BSCE in 1961 at University of Kentucky and a Masters in Public Health in 1966 from the University of Michigan.

Military:
He served his country honorably and was a United States ARMY Veteran. He received a commission as Second Lieutenant. After active duty he served in the Kentucky National Guard for ten years and reached the rank of Captain.

He was a professional engineer with the Kentucky State Department of Parks. He transferred to the Department of Health in the Sanitary Engineering Division, followed by twenty seven years with GRW Engineers Inc. in Lexington, Kentucky and retired.

After retirement, he worked four years with Landmark Engineering Inc. of Bowling Green.

He was a former member of Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers (KSPE) where he served on several committees, held several offices and served as President in 1995-1996. He received the distinguished Service Award in 1999 for outstanding service to the profession.

He was also a former member of the Kentucky Tennessee American Water Works Association and received the 2011 Gold Water Drop Award. The Kentucky Tennessee Water Environment Association named him to the “Hall of Fame” in that society.

He served on the Bowling Green Library Board of Trustees for eight years including time as Chairman.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bowling Green.

His parents and one brother: Henry Holman Dickinson.

Survivors:
His wife; one daughter: Elizabeth Dickinson; one son: Christopher Howard Dickinson (Missy); two grandchildren: Peyton and Claire; one sister: Lelia Smithand; and several extended family members and friends.

Services:
Memorial services held at 11:30 AM at First Baptist Church Narthex in Bowling Green.

Graveside services held February 25, 2017 at 2:30 PM under direction of Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
