Virgil Wilson Wall passed away peacefully in his Bel Air, CA home on September 17th, 2014. Virgil lived a long and very productive life as a Husband, Father, Aerospace and Electrical Engineer with a never ceasing passion for understanding the workings of the world he lived in.
Born October 18th, 1924 in St. Louis, MO. Virgil enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17 and served in the Intelligence Corps overseas during WWII.
Virgil held a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University and an MS degree in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Virgil began his professional career at Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey developing Vacuum Tubes, Microwave Communications, and Radar Systems. He went on to work at North American Aviation in research and development, followed by heading up the Radar Engineering department at Raytheon Electronics in Santa Barbara CA. Virgil finished his career at Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA, where he developed the first of many Military Communication Satellites. Virgil holds numerous US patents, and continued to be a consultant in Electrical Engineering for the majority of his life.
Virgil is survived by his wife Jean of 68 years, his four children; David, Virginia, Christopher, and Catherine, and his six grandchildren: Federico, Jessica, Christopher, Justin, Samantha, and Jordan.
Virgil will be dearly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in Peace.
A celebration of his life will be held at his Bel Air, CA home on Sunday, September 21st between 12PM and 6PM. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
