Obituary for Bess Anne Abshire

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 6, 2007 at a 2:00 PM Mass in St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Bess Snyder Abshire, 65, who passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2007 at her residence in Scott, Louisiana. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Monsignor J. Douglas Courville, JCL, Pastor of St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Katie Ducote and Melanie Ducote. Lectors will be Tammy Abshire and Alyse Abshire. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Ducote and her husband Richard; one son, Mark Lee Abshire and his wife Tammy; one sister, Rose Tucker; five brothers, Keith Snyder, George LeRoy Snyder, Thomas Snyder, William Snyder and Joseph Snyder; five grandchildren, Katie Ducote, Richard C. Ducote, Alyse Abshire, Mark J. Abshire and Melanie Ducote; one great grandchild, Azalea Belle Ducote. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffrey Abshire; parents, James K. Snyder and Frances L. Butterworth Snyder; one sister, Agnes Snyder; and one brother Richard Snyder. A native of Coldwater, Michigan and a resident of Scott, Louisiana for 44 years of her life, Bess Abshire was employed at Lafayette General Medical Center for over 20 years as an LPN II in the Pediatric Department. She proudly served her country in the United States Army Nurse Corp. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend to all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be Mark Lee Abshire, Richard Ducote, Mark Jeffrey Abshire, Richard Cyrus Ducote, Tim Tucker, Paul David Abshire, Thomas Snyder, William Snyder and Joe Snyder. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Lafayette, LA 70506. Martin & Castille-Lafayette.
