Mary Jo Espe, 82, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at White Hall Nursing and Rehab.

She was born June 19, 1926, in Mineral Springs, a daughter of Tom and Artie Tollett Ingram.

Mrs. Espe was reared and received her early education in Mineral Springs, graduating from Mineral Springs High School. After high school, she played pro basketball with Hazel Walker and the Redheads until 1952.

After a brief career as a nurse, Mrs. Espe graduated from beauty school in 1964. She owned and operated Mary Jo’s Beauty Shop out of her home for many years and also worked in the Trinity Village beauty shop for many years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Espe was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Espe, whom she married March 10, 1951, in Minden, Louisiana; her parents; two brothers, Hayes Ingram and E.T. Ingram; and three sisters, Faye Casella, Kathleen Lyman and Dean Jones.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Luers (Mike) of Park City, Utah and Amecia Wise of Hot Springs; sister, Janie Eatmon of Marianna; two grandchildren, Michael Costello (Joely) of Little Rock and Bryce Costello (Hannah) of Park City, Utah; and two great-grandchildren, Sadie Caroline Costello and Ivy Kathryn Costello.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 18, 2008, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son by Michael Costello.

Burial will be private.
