This is her own autobiographical sketch from that book (pp. 77-78):

So that this record will be complete, a few words must be included about myself, Charlotte Ann Abney Metzger, the 4th child to my parents. I was graduated from Missouri Valley College, Marshall, Missouri, with the Ph. B. and B. Mus. degrees. Several years of teaching followed, primary grades, high school, and finally a business college. After about three years with the Missouri State Employment Service and the Unemployment Compensation Commission of Missouri, I served twelve years as Prime Certifying Officer for civilian payrolls for the Federal Government at the Kansas City Quartermaster Depot and the Army Finance Center in St. Louis. It was while on the last assignment that I met and became acquainted with Edgar Louis Metzger, an accountant and Civilian Chief of Retained Accounts Division at the Center. In 1952 we were married and early in the following year I discontinued working. Having free time at my disposal made it possible for me to do things always before out of the question. I began studying art. During the eight years we were stationed in Indianapolis the study was continued as it was upon our return to St. Louis at Washington University. My involvement with art organizations and my work has been satisfying and my efforts have met with some degree of success. As I write this, I am a member of the Board of Governors, Chairman of the Art Section Executive Committee and Publicity Chairman of the St. Louis Artists' Guild. These duties have infringed upon my time for painting and for completing this manuscript. My membership in the Indiana Artists' Club is maintained. We, Ed and I, have many interests -- Humanism, politics, the cooperative movement, stamps, bottles, etc.
