A Wilson Family Tree

Notes for Shelton Spillsbury Abney

According to the Hillis/Abney/Franklin/Smith web site, his parents were William Abney and Elizabeth P. McClanahan. He was postmaster in Staunton, VA, before 1855. He moved from Virginia to Saline Co., MO, in 1855. William Caldwell Davis, his father-in-law, was already living and farming in Saline Co. After a year in Saline Co., he and his family moved to Morgan Co., MO. He was elected a Missouri state senator in 1858 from Morgan Co. Shelton possessed a farm in Morgan County, in Haw Creek Township, about 8 miles west of Versailles. He continued to farm this land until his death in 1887. There is much more about him on the Hillis/Abney/Franklin/Smith web site. There is also much about him and other Abneys in "In Search of Kate: Abney, Geisinger, Davis, Parks, McClanahan, Shelton, Van Lear Families" by Charlotte Ann Abney Metzger (Genealogical Research & Productions, St. Louis, MO, June 1978; available from FamilySearch.org, microfiche 6019848, images obtained from Stephen Landuyt).
