A Wilson Family Tree

Notes for John Bitner Clark

From Sorrells Genealogy:

He was named for a John BITNER who was born in Blount County, TN in 1816.

He and his twin brother, Robert Shields CLARK were very close. "It is said that if they met while plowing their adjacent farms that they would sit down and talk the rest of the day while the mules sought the shade. I have also been told that someone couldn't fight just one of them, it would have to be both!" (Fred Everitt CLARK)

He is listed on the 1850 Sevier Co., TN Census living beside his mother.

Can't find him on the 1860 Sevier Co., TN Census.

He is deceased before the 1870 Sevier Co., TN Census. His wife and 4 youngest children are listed.

1871 Sevier Co., TN Tax List: Clark, J.B. Heirs District 13

He and his wife are buried in a cowfield on the top of the hill behind a house on the back road to Gatlinburg near Murphy's Chapel United Methodist Church. There are just rocks to mark the graves.

I have a tin-type picture of the children. (Sherry S. Finchum)
