Notes for Julie Ann Shiflett

The Star-Telegram, Fort Worth, TX, Oct. 26, 2006:

Juila Shiflett Crosswell

FORT WORTH -- Julia Shiflett Crosswell, 50, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at her home in Fort Worth.

Celebration of life: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Greenwood Funeral Home, with Father Jerry Ward, retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, officiating.

Julie Ann Shiflett was born Dec. 2, 1955, at a U.S. air base in Wiesbaden, Germany, to George and Patricia Green Shiflett. She graduated from Western Hills High School in 1973, and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1989. She worked a number of years for Harcourt Brace Publishing Co. and then taught computer classes at TCC. For the past 10 years she loved being a stay-at-home mom.

Julie always helped her family in setting up their computers and was a wealth of knowledge answering all our questions. She was the founder and webmaster of the Shiflett Family Genealogy Website, www.shifletfamily.org. In 1999, she received The Genealogical Website of Excellence Award and was named an outstanding Shiflett descendant for her dedication to the Shiflett family research.

Julie was known for her baking, especially her Italian pizzelle cookies and nut loaves. The whole extended family of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews often gathered at her home on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Julie loved to work in her garden and the family get-togethers in her back yard will long be remembered. Julie was an excellent seamstress and she freely offered her time and talent, altering prom dresses and sewing costumes, and she recently designed and made her daughter-in-law's wedding gown. She was a strong, bright and creative woman who used her talents in a labor of love remodeling her home. She loved to spend time with her dogs, Sally and Zelda, and enjoyed bird watching.

Many lives were touched by her kindness, intelligence and strength. Being the oldest of seven children, she was a natural leader to all who knew her, but especially to her brothers and sisters whose lives she impacted more than we could ever express. Her sister's children had a second home at Julie's, and the times spent there will be memories cherished forever. But most importantly, Julie was a devoted and amazing wife and mother. She always put her family first.

Julie was preceded in death by her brother, James Stephan Shiflett.

Survivors: She will be forever loved and missed by her husband of 18 years, Robert Crosswell; daughters, Sarah Fezio, Jennifer Boyle and husband, Solomon, and Margaret Crosswell; son, Joseph Fezio and wife, Rhiannon; grandson, Jackson Fezio; parents, George and Patricia Shiflett; sister, Laura Shiflett; brothers, Dennis Shiflett, Mark Shiflett and wife, Dawn, all of Fort Worth; sisters, Jean Shiflett, Mary Alda and husband, John, of Coppell; many nieces and nephews; a large extended family; a multitude of online friends who were dear to her; and her very best friend of 38 years, Angie Bryson Babb of Virginia.
