From Find A Grave (listing for Lambert Pitner Persing):

Lambert Pitner Persing was born in Northumberland county, Pennsylvania, March 15, 1834, being the youngest of a family of seventeen children, and died at his home in the village of Jamestown, Steuben county, Indiana, Sept. 11, 1902, aged 68 years, 5 months and 26 days.

When eighteen years of age he began to work at the milling business, it being his father's occupation, and he made it the principal business of his life. He was married to Lydia Ann Kanouse at Bloomsburg, Pa., March 20, 1856. Eight children blessed this union, two of whom died in infancy. Six sons grew to manhood, and all were with their father during his last sickness. John, of Kendallville; William, of Durand, Mich.; Abe, of Wolf Lake; Hervey, of Jamestown; Charles, of Fremont and Pardoe, of Kimmel. Seventeen grandchildren have been added to the family circle.

Forty-four years ago at Bloomsburg he experienced religion, and with his companion united with the Methodist church. There being no church of his choice in this place when coming here, he united with the Congregational society, where he has been an earnest worker, was for many years, Sunday school superintendent, and at the time of his death was one of the trustees of the church, and ministers of the gospel always received a hearty welcome in his hospitable home. In 1870 he came to Indiana, when for a short time he was located at Nevada Mills, going from there to Three Rivers, Mich., and twenty-nine years ago he settled in Jamestown, which has been his home most of the time since. A sorrowing widow is left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and companion, the sons an indulgent father and the community one of the kindest and best neighbors. The funeral took place last Sunday at the church, conducted by Rev. L. P. Rose, of Orland, an old time friend of the family, assisted by Rev. T. L. Dyer. His six sons acted as pall bearers.
