A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, in Hayward Cemetery in Banks for Byrda Ellen Gathright, who died Sept. 20 at age 84.
Mrs. Gathright was born Byrda Ellen Leonard on May 30, 1917, in Texhoma, Okla., and was raised in Stuart, Iowa. She graduated from William Penn College and received a master's degree from the University of Southern California. She lived in Phoenix, Ariz., and Los Angeles before moving to Banks in 1968. A librarian and teacher, she most recently was the school librarian for Harvey Clark, Gales Creek and Dilley elementary schools before retiring in 1983. After retiring, she was a volunteer for several schools, including Tom McCall and St. Francis elementary schools. In 1943, she married Roger Gathright.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Janet and Nancy; and brothers, James Leonard, L.P. Leonard and Francis Leonard.
