Captain Robert Dulaney Reeves II, Ret. United States Navy, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019. He was born on April 15, 1939 to Charles Humphries and Jane Martin Reeves in Memphis, TN, where he lived before moving to New Orleans and settling in South Weymouth, MA in 1949. Capt. Reeves attended Williams College, where he was on the football and diving teams and was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. After he graduated in 1961, he began his military career when he joined the US Navy. Throughout his Naval career he also graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College, Naval Post-Graduate School, and Army War College. His proud service is too numerous to list, but included two tours in Vietnam, commanding the destroyer USS Simms, COMTHIRDFLT (the family's favorite station in Ford Island, HI), and finally as the Professor of Naval Science at the University of Florida. Capt. After retiring from the Navy, Capt. Reeves settled with his wife, Lee Ann, and two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth and Anne Caroline. He turned his attention to his family and friends. He dedicated much time to preserving history by researching genealogy and joining the Sons of the American Revolution. He also picked up photography, documenting many family get-togethers and the early lives of his two grandsons. Anyone who knew him also knew his love of forwarding emails. Throughout his life, Capt. Reeves was very active in the church, often serving as an usher, reader, and vestry member. He was a founding member of All Saints Anglican Church in Gainesville, FL, before moving to Atlanta to live nearer his daughters. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lee Ann Schweitzer Reeves; his daughter, Sarah Reeves; his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Todd Reich; his two grandsons, Reeves Kirkland and Cannon Alexander Reich; all of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his caring sister, Lynn Thayer of Raynham, MA. Memorial services will be held at Dunwoody United Methodist Church at 3 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019.
