Notes for Thomas Elias Brents

After the Civil War, he attended medical school in GA and upon completion, he moved westward into TX for a while and then settled in the Ada, OK area. He was a noted pioneer surgeon .
It is told that Dr. Brents was wounded by a bullet that lodged in his chest above his heart and that his life was saved by a ferrotype (tintype) picture of Orpha that slowed the force o f the bullet as it hit him and he later married Orpha.
