Hill, Private in Company A, 8th Inf Reg, was born in New Haven County, St ate of Connecticut, age about forty nine years, five feet five in height, fair complexion, bl ue eyes, light hair and by profession when enlisted, farmer and enlisted by us at New Hope Ma rshall County Tenn on the 13th May 1861 to serve for twelve months and is now entitled to a d ischarge for reason set forth in the certificate of Surgeon W. Gray below. Said Hill has bee n unfit for duty for two months.

Th e rupture occurred about two months ago while upon a force march in the mountains of N. Weste rn Va. in my opinion he should be discharged from the service. December 23, 1861
