She graduated Valedictorian from Pi Beta Phi High School, Gatlinburg, TN.

Attended Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN as an English major.

She was the secretary for the Director of Schools in the Greeneville City School System, Greeneville, TN. She retired in December 1998.

She grew up as a Baptist, was a Methodist for several years, but rejoined the Baptist Church when she married. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greeneville, TN where she and Fred taught an Adult Sunday School Class. She was then a member of the First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, TN.

She was called "Tassie" by her grandchildren. Her first grandchild, Brent Emory McAfee called her this because he could not say, "Granny".

She was diagnosed with colon cancer in May of 2000. She had extensive chemotheraphy treatment. She learned that the cancer has matastized to her bone, lungs, and liver in June of 2002. She had radiation and chemotherapy during the next several months.

She spent the last years of her life ministering to numerous cancer patients in Jefferson County. She was loved by many because of her strong faith in Christ and her constant encouragement to others.

Obituary: "Loretta Ingle Sorrells Died: 12-14-2002 JEFFERSON CITY — Loretta Ingle Sorrells, 64, of Jefferson City, formerly of Greeneville, died early Saturday morning at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center In Knoxville, after an extended battle with cancer, which her family stated she fought courageously.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City.
Mrs. Sorrells was a former employee of Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City High School, Jefferson County Board of Education and Greeneville City School System.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years: Fred Sorrells; her daughter and son-in-law: Sherry and Mark Finchum of Jefferson City; her sons and daughters-in-law: Tim and Tracy Sorrells of Greenville, S.C., and Clark and Karen Sorrells of Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren: Brent McAfee, Eric McAfee, and Katie McAfee, all of Jefferson City, Caleb Sorrells, Jordan Sorrells, and Emma Sorrells, all of Greenville (S.C.) and Lillie Sorrells, Hannah Sorrells, and Jacob Sorrells, all of Asheville; a brother and sister-in-law: Cecil and Faye Ingle of Dyer; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Richard and Dorothy Burleson of Kingsport; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Shirley and Madison Carey of Memphis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Fred Ingle and Emma Deane Ingle Waltemate; and her stepfather: Bill Waltemate.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City.
The funeral service will be follow at 7 o’clock at the church. The Rev. Dr. Gene Wilder and the Rev. Dr. Joe Stacker will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon in Foster Cemetery in Petersburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church of the donor’s choice.
Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements."
