Notes for Perlina unknown
The names of Joseph and Perlina for Susan Vance's parents are from Danny Shadrick. Stephanie Logan Falls (emails dated 18-21 Sep 2015) suggested that Susan Vance was a daughter of Joseph Vance and Penina Rainey. This seems like it might fit since Susan Vance Cole had a granddaughter named Lela Penina. The suggestion also has some credibility because of a "fifth cousin to remote" Family Finder DNA match between our families. I also have an Ancestry DNA match with someone who descends from Joseph Vance and Penina Rainey.
On the other hand, a transcription in Georgia Bible Records on Ancestry.com (image 443) has the families of Richard Cole & Susan Vance and William M. Cole & Mary L. Cole, and also lists Perlina Vance (died 7/21/1854) and Joseph Vance (died 7/12/1837). The Allfam 001 family tree shows Susan Vance's mother as Penina Rainey with the date of 21 Jul 1854 for her death, but shows Joseph Vance's death as 11 Jul 1857, which doesn't fit with this bible record.
An 1850 census sheet for Coweta Co., GA, shows a Jos Vance, age 68, living with the family of Mary Spence, whom Allfam 001 shows as being a widowed daughter of Joseph Vance and Penina Rainey. However, since Penina isn't listed, that implies that she was probably already dead, in conflict with the death date of 21 Jul 1854. The Perlina or Penina who died in 1854 should be listed somewhere in the 1850 census, but I have not been able to find her so far.
