HOMER, LA - Robert Doy Gathright passed away November 10, 2006 at Leslie Lakes Retirement Center in Arcadia, LA. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Rodney Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Cox cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Born July 3, 1923 in Homer, he lived to the age of 83 years, 4 months and 7 days. He died as he lived – an honest man – the noblest work of God. Doy was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He married Sarah Alice Fountain on May 8, 1947 and has been a longtime resident of Homer. Doy, or "Mr. Bob" as he was called at work, was employed at Ludlow Corporation in Homer for 35 years. After retirement from Ludlow, he found work at Featherston Farms Plant Nursery in Homer and later worked for a security service as long as he was able. He was honored with being named "Older Worker of the Year" in 1987. Doy was a deacon and a very active member of the Mt. Paron Primitive Baptist Church of Homer. He was past President of the Homer Pelican Booster Club for several years and was always very active in school and community activities. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by all that were blessed to know him. He will forever remain in the hearts of all those he touched and shaped with his presence.

Doy was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Otha Gathright; 3 sisters, Esma English, Edna Fountain and Faye English.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sarah Alice Gathright of Homer; 2 brothers, Durwood Gathright of Homer and B.K. Gathright of Sterlington, LA; 2 daughters, Betty Gathright of Homer and Mary Hall and husband, Tony of Homer; son, Robert Gathright and wife LaWanda of Bossier City; grandchildren, Brian Eikeseth and wife, Kim of Benton, LA, Kari Privitera and husband, Rosorio of Sicily, Italy, Billy Jack Hall and wife, Christy of Dallas, TX and Amy Hall of Homer; 4 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Joey, Emily and Victoria.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Spigener, W.A. Spigener, John Cole, Brian Eikeseth, Billy Jack Hall and Bubba McClung.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dude Tabor, Ralph Mitchell and Rex Young.
