Notes for James Collins

[SRC-DW]- died testate, naming children.
Carolyn Gathright says he was born about 1743 in Winton Co., SC. Find A Grave (listing for James Collins) says 1731 in Richmond, Wise Co., VA (I'm not sure there is such a place). Both say he died on 2 Nov 1789, but Carolyn says he died in Winton Co., SC and Find A Grave says Beaufort, Beaufort Co., SC. The Find A Grave listing also says he was married to Catherine "Caty" Croom in 1762 in Barnwell, Barnwell Co., SC, and then married Mary James Kirtley on 1 Mar 1763 in Culpepper, VA. Does not sound right. Carolyn Gathright lists a marriage to Nancy about 1787, which is also questionable. If James was born in 1731, Mary James Kirtley could have been an earlier marriage rather than a later marriage, and there is a marriage record on Ancestry.com in "U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900" showing a marriage between James Collins and Mary James Kirtley in 1755.
