Notes for Ephraim Garthwaite Jr.

Spelling of Garthwaite taken from Carolyn Gathright Web page. Other spellings include Garthwrite and Gathright. Spellings of the first name include Ephrain and Ephram.

WFT Volume 5 Tree #1179 and WFT Volume 5 Tree #1346 show this Ephraim as being the son of Michael. Carolyn Gathright and Craig Gathright have this Ephraim being Michael's grandson. I have followed them and added an additional Ephraim.

The range of birth dates for the children is too great to be for a single mother. It's theoretically possible for them all to be for the same father, but I don't know what's really going on here. It's also rather odd that there are two daughters named Agnes. I would suppose they were really the same person, but that would give her three husbands (not impossible, but...). In addition, Craig Gathright lists another daughter named Ann, who seems to be the same as one of the Agneses.

From Craig Gathright (Dallas Gathright family tree):

Note:
Active in the Curles Congergation in December 1699, Ephraim pledged 150 pounds of Tobacco to build a Quaker meeting house.

In 1722 a Quaker metting House was constucted near the Garthwrite home in White Oak Swamp.

In 1726 Ephraim was fined 500 pounds of Tobacco for refusing to bear arms.
