Carolyn Gathright and Craig Gathright give his name as William Henry Lafayette Gathright. Others have William Henry Gathright. Carolyn Gathright lists a marriage to Mary Jane Gibson; WFT 5 # 1346 lists a marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Smith. Everybody agrees on the marriage to Susan Buckner, though there are different versions of her name.

William Henry was a Baptist minister. Married several times. He was a pvt. in Co. E, 19th La. Inf. Enlisted March 4, 1863, Downsville La. The rolls from July 1863 to April 1865, absent, sick, order of Dr. Wall, since June 25, 1863. Found in records of La. Confederate Soldiers and Commands, Vol. II. The confederate records give his name, William Henry Gathright.

(He) was a Baptist minister and he was also a Private in Company E, 19th, LA Infantry, having enlisted March 4,1863, Downsville, LA. in the Confederate States Army. He was on the sick role from July 1863 to April 1865. This information was found in the records of "LA Confederate Soldiers and Commands" Vol. II, p 985.
William came to Oakland LA. from Georgia where he was born. He probably came with his father and mother.... He moved. to Nashville, Arkansas and then back to Oakland where he died. ... his name is not on the stone but his second wife's name is on the stone along with facts about William. His name was left off the stone by mistake, (he) was pastor of the Oklona Church, in Arkansas near Oakland, LA. The Old William Henry GATHRIGHT farm and homesite is about a mile south of Oakland, LA.

The Confederate records give his name, William Henry GATHRIGHT.
