A Wilson Family Tree
Notes for James Collins Gathright
Carolyn Gathright did not list two of the children: Lucy Jane and Thomas Jefferson.
From Craig Gathright (Dallas Gathright family tree):
James Collins Gathright was born in Georgia about 1796. He moved to Arkansas sometime after 1852, but prior to 1862. Most genealogists agree that the migration occurred in 1854 and several of James’ adult children made the trip with him. We don’t know why he moved, but we do know that he was a fan of both President Thomas Jefferson and President Andrew Jackson because he named two of his sons after them. Perhaps Andrew “Old Hickory” Jackson’s tales of the lands beyond the Mississippi or his valiant defense of New Orleans inspired James to move west.
James’ third son, Jesse Franklin served in C Company, 19th Arkansas Infantry CSA. He enlisted at Hillsboro Arkansas on March 1, 1862 under Col T.P. Dockery and Cap John A. Meeks, recorded in Confederate records of the Arkansas History Commission at the Old State House in Little Rock Arkansas. The history of the 19th Arkansas can be found in the Jesse's notes. It is interesting to note that Perry Starr (featured elsewhere in this family tree), served in the 28th Texas Lancers, who attempted to raise the siege of Vicksburg where Jesse died. The Starr family married into the Gathright clan a few generations later.

[JLG]- PD letter to Clyde (NOV 3 1969); "I found records of James C. in Georgia until he came to Arkansas and Louisiana some time between 1852-54. My grandfather, Miles Madison, who was the oldest son of James C., came from Georgia in 1854 when my dad (PD father) was eight yrs old, but according to records of the marriage of Rebecca GATHRIGHT (Aunt Becky) who married old man Frost Pool in 1852 is proof that James C. came to Ark-Louis before my grandfather came in 1854. According to the records, all of James C.'s children were born in Georgia.
(letter #2) James C.... b in Georgia in 1796, d in Arkansas August 11, 1858.
We do not know the month or day of his birth but he was of age when the settlement of his father's estate was started in August 1818. He married Mary E. Parnell and to this union was born 9 children ... He moved to Arkansas at the time or shortly after his son Miles moved there in 1854. He was a farmer, a baptist in faith and belonged to the masonic lodge.... Just one month after her (his wife's) death on Aug 11, 1858, her husband died and was buried beside her. There were but few records to be found on James C. and his wife and but little knowledge passed on to other generations.
I (PD) have found records of James C. Gathright in Georgia up to about the time he moved to Arkansas which was about 1852. The records about him in Arkansas were taken from the history of "The Evans, Poole and Gathright Families". Published in 1956 by Grace Morgan Evans of Nevada, Texas. ...
