Notes for William M. Kanouse
Last name is spelled Knouse in some places. Middle initial is from the 1880 census. Some sources list him as William H. Kanouse, and he is even listed as William Henry Kanouse in at least one place. He is clearly listed as W. M. Kanouse in the 1880 census, though. This is the only actual record I have seen with a middle initial; in most records he is simply William Kanouse.
Some sources list his birth date as 10 Jun 1838, but a page from the family bible of William Kanouse and Elizabeth Snyder says (possibly in his own writing) "William Kanouse was born in Jackson Township Columbia County Pa, in the year of our Lord 1838. Apr. 7".
William and his wife, Elizabeth Snyder, were half-first cousins, grandchildren of Elizabeth Hepler by different husbands. See the notes for Elizabeth Snyder.
The name on his death certificate is William Kanouse. I'm not sure what it says for cause of death; it looks like Gen. Dibility. Place of death is just listed as Camargo, Dewey Co., OK. Names of parents are not given.
