Murvin Roy Gathright, 73, of Carrollton and formerly of Corsicana, clicked the heels of his cowboy boots as he ran into the arms of Jesus on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014. Fondly known as Daddy, Paw Paw, and Mr. Murv, he entered this world in Morton, Texas on Oct. 26, 1941. Born to parents Sallie Malinda and James Oliver Gathright, he joined older siblings, James, Lyndon and Helen.
Murvin accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 8. His priority in life was serving and honoring his Lord. He served as Baptist Deacon for 36 years, taught youth and preschool Sunday school and participated in many mission projects.
Murvin married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Jean Cunningham on June 2, 1962.
Murvin leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sandy and a living legacy his daughters, Patti and Lori; sons, Brent and Craig. He was met in heaven by his daughter, Jeanie and sons, Scotty and Stephen. Paw Paw’s heart became more tender as he was blessed with 10 wonderful grandchildren, Mackenzie, Riley, Morgan, Brooks, Trent, Blaire, Andrew, Jefferson, Delaney, and Maddison.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Danny P. Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Morgan Graham, Brooks Graham, Trent Graham, Blaire Graham, Andrew Gathright, Delaney Gathright, and Jefferson Hazzard.
Ending a brief battle with lung cancer he joyfully went home. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin, Corsicana, Texas 75110.
