Notes for Ruth Evelyn Gathright
Never married.
The Jesse F. Gathright Family Record spells her middle name Evilin.
Craig Gathright listed her occupation as department store clerk, which fits with the 1930 and 1940 censuses, but I know that later she worked for the AT&SF Railroad for many years. I'm not sure what her job was for them.
A memorial card from her funeral says that she was born in Pilot Point, which is in Denton County, TX. However, some notes by Ila Haralson, obtained on 13 May 2017 from Betty Haralson, say that "Lois Evelyn and George were all born in Denton County Texas about 8 miles southeast of Pilot Point Texas, near Mustang.

And I remember Aunt Evelyn telling me they went to that school, too. And Aunt Evelyn depended on Aunt Lois to take care of her, I guess and so, one day, Aunt Lois had to stay home and do the laundry cause Grandma was sick. And Aunt Evelyn said she was just teetotally scared to death cause this girl that went to school over there was kind of a tomboy deluxe. She’d pick on everybody. She was just a character, just a character deluxe, she was. But anyway, Aunt Lois had to stay home and do laundry that day and Aunt Evy had to go on to school. She was just scared to death cause she didn’t have her guardian angel, she wasn’t at school that day. She said, this was just a mean old girl. She told Aunt Evy, “You old Gathright”, she says, “I’ll kill you.” And of course, she was just picking on her. (Mamaw laughing) It scared Aunt Evy plumb to death cause she didn’t have Aunt Lois, her guardian angel at school. Aunt Lois was a little bit, Aunt Lois was several years older than her. Of course they went to the same school. In those days they had several grades, you know in one room. But anyway, this girl that Aunt Evy was so scared of, she told Aunt Evy, says, “You old Gathright, you, I’ll kill you.” Of course, Aunt Evy, she believed the whole thing, cause she was scared of that girl anyway. Apparently she was one of these kinds of people that picked on everybody anyway
