Notes for Johann (John) Bruchwalski
He and his family (Pauline, Marie, Franz, and Emilie) entered the U.S. from Germany on 4 Aug 1873. They came over on the ship Palmyra. (Thanks to Margaret Hough for this information.) He Americanized his name to John.
His place of birth is listed as Germany in the records I have seen, but he was probably from what we would call Poland today (a great deal of which was held by Prussia/Germany until after World War II). Later records of his older children tend to give their places of birth as Poland, so I am going to go ahead and set the birth places for this family to Poland rather than Germany.
