Fort Worth, Texas - George Minor Shiflett, Jr., 89, passed away Friday, April 26, 2024, after a brief illness.

Celebration of Life: 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024 in Live Oak Chapel at Greenwood; 3100 White Settlement Rd, Fort Worth, Texas 76107; with Father Jim Gigliotti officiating. A reception will immediately follow.

George was born May 19, 1934, in Ivy, Virginia to George Minor Shiflett Sr. and Frances Lucille Garrison. He graduated from Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Air Force on his 18th birthday. After graduating from the Air Force Aeronautical Medicine School, his first assignment was at Rhein Main Air Force Base, Germany. At a squadron party he danced with a beautiful nurse, Patricia Ann Green "and that was it". She was the love of his life. George and Patricia married April 4, 1955, in Frankfurt, Germany and together began a 17-year Air Force adventure including 2 tours at Ramstein AFB Germany, Langley AFB, VA, Plattsburgh AFB, NY, and Carswell AFB, TX, all while raising a family of seven children. He retired from active duty as a Master Sergeant in 1972, and the family settled in Fort Worth, Texas.

A devoted family man and a firm believer in the power of education, George proudly earned his Associate of Arts degree from Tarrant County College. His humble nature and commitment to learning was a value he instilled in his children, inspiring them to pursue their own dreams. George cherished the moments he spent with his loved ones, especially on Sundays when the family would gather for lunch at the family home. He found solace and joy in the beauty of nature, taking pleasure in bird watching and meticulously tending to his yard. George's love for the written word, music, and the simple act of caring for his family enriched his life, leaving a lasting legacy for all who knew him.

George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat; his parents; two sisters, Joyce Snead and Geraldine Madison; son, James Stephan Shiflett; and daughter, Julia Fezio Crosswell.

Left to cherish his memory are sons, Dennis Shiflett and Mark Shiflett (Patricia); daughters, Laura Shiflett, Mary Alda (John), and Jean Kenas (William); eight grandchildren: Sarah Fezio, Jennifer Boyle (Solomon), Joe Fezio (Rhiannon), Margaret Woodlee (Kevin), Robert Lyons (Samantha), Amanda Lyons, Matthew Shiflett, and Michael Shiflett; and six great-grandchildren.
