Notes for Johanna Eleanore Kulms

Her last name is spelled Kohlm on daughter Alma's death certificate, Kulms on Find A Grave (listing for Friedrich Sommerlatte), and Kolms in the marriage record on Ancestry.com ("Colorado County Texas Marriage Index 1837-1886"). It is also spelled Kulms in birth records on Ancestry.com ("U.S. Evangelical Lutheran Church of America Records 1875-1940"), and in the 1860 census there are several people named Kulms living with F. and Jane Sommerlette. Middle name is from Find A Grave and from those birth records.

From Find A Grave (listing for Johanna Eleanore Kulms Sommerlatte):

Johanna Eleanore "Kulms" Sommerlatte, was born in Leidendorf bai Waldenburg, Prussia. She was the daughter of Wilhelm and Rosiona "Hoffmann" Kulms.

She married Friedrich Sommerlatte in 1858 in Colorado County, Texas. The couple were the parents of 10 children.

It is not known exactly were Eleanore was interned, but it is suspected that she may be interned in the Sommerlatte Cemetery, near Frelsburg, Colorado County, Texas.

After extensive research Johanna's date of immigration to the United States has not been found as of the present time.

I have so far been unable to figure out what "Leidendorf bai Waldenburg, Prussia" means. That name comes from baptism records of Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg, TX, which can be viewed on Ancestry.com at "U.S. Evangelical Lutheran Church of America Records 1875-1940". The only town I've found called Leidendorf is in Bavaria, which was not part of Prussia (also, I believe that area was mostly Catholic rather than Lutheran). For what it’s worth, there is a town called Waldenburg about 40 miles from Leidenburg. There is another Waldenburg, in Saxony. As far as I can tell, there is not a Leidendorf near it, and Saxony was not part of Prussia either. There was a Waldenburg in Prussia, which is now in Poland and called Wałbrzych (according to Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wa%C5%82brzych, most of the German population in that area was expelled after World War II). As far as I know there was no Leidendorf near it. There was a town called Liebersdorf, which could be a possibility for where Johanna was from (thanks to Claire Wilson for finding out about Wałbrzych).
